What is Gout?

Gout is a type of arthritis that occurs mainly in the big toe joint where your toe meets the rest of your foot. This disease happens when you develop uric acid deposits, in the form of small crystals, within the joint or the soft tissues around it. A gout attack can look similar to an infection because it often causes:

• Red skin
• Swelling
• Skin that feels warm
